Ok, I was in the E.R. twice, two weeks ago. Because apparently the symptoms I had associated with a panic attack.

The Panic I had was very very sever. (was influence by drugs) cocaine, ephedrine pills. What had triggered the hieghten panic attack was the cocaine.

I am doing some counseling. 2nd going into the 3rd meeting. I kinda need help now. Because Im starting to have episodes that arent full blown "tunnel vision, going unconciouse" but feels like its getting there.

Everytime it happend, was when im driving, or at school (after a long period on the computer). a sudden slow breathe comes.

Well, during the second meeting with the counselor, she says I may have adhd.

My question is::
Do the "anti-depresent" help wiht the breathing problems?, it prevents that "situation" from happending? what does it do?,

is it my mind thats causing this situation ie: short breath, if not controlled i feel tingly and faintly passing out. Hopefully not
Well when these panic attacks start to develope. the only thing that seemed to relieve is having a cold bottle of water or a ice bag over my head.

I’ve had panic disorder since I was 26 years old. I am now 54, so I guess I’m pretty experienced. First, be careful with medication. I got hooked on Xanax and that was hell going thru withdrawals. The poster above me is wrong in that antidepressants can’t help. Certain antidepressants are prescribed for anxiety, such as Zoloft and Serezone. Serezone worked for me really well, however, I had to quit taking it because I have liver disease. Your therapy will help a lot. Also, there is a group, called Recovery, Inc. Their website is recovery-inc.com . Look it group times and locations and go to a meeting or two or twenty or so. They teach that "feelings are NOT facts" among other things and this group also helped me a lot. I’ve had panic attacks so bad, I’ve been to the ER room and when I was pregnant with my daughter, I wouldn’t leave my house except to go to the ob/gyn or hospital for delivery.

It will also help you a lot to learn some yoga or relaxation techniques.

Lastly, don’t worry, you won’t die from a panic attack, even tho it feels like you will. You won’t pass out or if you do, you will wake up so don’t worry about anything you don’t have to worry about.

If I can help you in any other way, please email me and I’ll try to talk you out of an attack, ok? It’s gonna be ok.

Anti-depressants won’t do anything but an anxiety pill can help. I’m on Ativan and it helps me.

I’ve had panic attacks on and off for over 40 years…

Believe it or not, somehow they’re triggered [ in my case] by excess gas in the stomach!

I’ve had them come on slow [thinking > brooding > worrying > panicking] or fast [even waking me from sleep]

Doctors usually say the anxiety causes the gastric distress, but I think the gastric distress causes the anxiety… Never had one doctor agree with me yet…

I never have any sensation of the gas, I’ve just trained myself to try to burp if I’m feeling antsy, etc. If I can belch, I take a Mylanta Gas and keep on belching, usually works in 30 minutes or less…

I never think it will work, but it ALWAYS has…

[In my case the upset stomach is usually caused by post nasal drainage from an allergy sometimes after taking pseudo-ephedrine]

Try it, it couldn’t hurt, and it might save you many years in therapy and anti depressants…
