Relief from anxiety attacks?
I’ve been on klonopin for 11 years for panic/anxiety attacks, and am trying to gather as much info on methods used to control the attacks as possible so that I can eventually get off of it. I’ve tried the breathing exercises and have had no success–any other ideas?
Consult your doctor on this, but I heard that eating bananas can relieve anxiety due to helping balance seratonin levels. Other things you might try are: yoga and music therapy. Breathing exercises are a good idea, but if they aren’t working, perhaps these other ideas may help. Whatever you do, I wouldn’t go off a medication without a doctor’s supervision.
I hope you feel better real soon.
Blessings,

Look into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It helps to get you to see the reality of your fears that may be causing the anxiety. This could help you get to the root of the problem.

Sticking your head in the freezer helps you feel the sensation of catching your breath but that’s only a quick fix. you can talk to some counselors about calming and control CD’s or tape’s. I suffered with anxiety attack’s for years and it seemed that nothing could help. It was so bad that not only did I think I was having an heart attack and psyched myself up even more but I actually had physical affects to where I actually had physical pain. I haven’t had an attack in years and I’ll tell you how i got over them, I come to face death right in the eye’s. When and only when I said to myself (and meant it) that if I die, I die! no problem. Not fearing death or having an heart attack stopped the anxiety. Good luck, I know they can be a pain!

I have tried 3 different types of anxiety medication. Klonopin didn’t work. Propanolol worked some, but Clonodine seems to be working the best. I think I spelled Clonodine right, but it may be Clonidine. You have to take it everyday for it to build up in your system.

Great book called Master Your Panic. Lots of good info there and also tells you what to do when/if the breathing doesn’t work.
