Yes, you should probably minimize any stimulant because they all pretty much cause anxiety as a side effect. You should see what works for you though. You may be fine with some caffeine (e.g. green tea) or you may not be. I’d suggest weaning down if you are already drinking caffeine and seeing if it helps.

You should try to cut down if you’re already prone to panic attacks as caffeine is a stimulant and quickens your heart rate.

For almost all panic people it should be, of course there are some people it doesn’t bother.

You have to monitor how you feel after you have have caffeine.

I’ve suffered from anxiety for several years now. I limit myself to 1 cup of coffee in the morning only. Anxiety sufferers seem to be more sensitive to the effects of caffeine, increased heart rate, etc. I find if I have more than this it’s not worth feeling the increase in anxiety. They make some really good decaf coffees now, or try drinking more tea.

I gradually weaned myself from 3 cups a day to decaf coffee and soda drinks- what a huge difference it made. Reducing caffeine doesn’t stop panic attacks altogether, but it is one thing that is completely within your control.

Hey, I truly understand how you feel…

The uncomfortable symptoms like sweaty palms, "jelly" legs, extreme alertness, "impending doom" feeling and the fight-or-flight response.
I’ve been there. I’m an ex-victim. Sometimes the deep breathing or distraction techniques doesn’t work – a full-blown panic or anxiety attack happens later.
Sometimes you experience panic attack out of the blue and such.

Do NOT buy Panic Away, Linden Method, EasyCalm or the Panic Puzzle. They do NOT work – I’ve tried them and their solutions are similar – it DOESN’T WORK.
Medications do NOT work – I was under many antidepressants (Prozac, Lexapro, Paxil and Zoloft) and anti-anxiety medications (Ativan, Klonopin, and Xanax) but my condition was the same – no improvement at all.

The only program that really work is The Panic Attack Solution. It’s found by an ex-victim. You can check out his old blog in his official website to read up some useful tips.
But the package is the best – it teaches 17 powerful techniques and the real solution to panic attacks. I’ve bought it and it really helped me – it’s the BEST anti-anxiety package or book I’ve read.
His theory really makes sense.

You will learn why your panic attacks can happen without warning sometimes; why having stimulant causes panic attacks; and many-many other useful tips!

YES! I am a former severe anxiety sufferer, and I have been caffeine free for over a year now. That isn’t what made me better, but it did make things worse when I was using it. Also, avoid greasy foods and sweets. Anything like that is going to put you on edge and increase your anxiety.

I suffered with severe anxiety and panic disorder for years, to the point where I was sedentary and could barely leave home. Couldn’t drive a vehicle, go in a store, or do much of anything.

My biggest symptoms were dizzyness, head pressure, skipped heart beats, and lack of energy. I had a dozen others though, like eye floaters, stomach discomfort all the time, high blood pressure, chest pain, etc. I went to a lots of doctors, and saw just about every type of specialist possible, before I finally gave up and settled on it being anxiety. I went through a long process of behavior correction that was both self taught and taught by a good psychologist I had. Now I’m doing much much better. I own my own business now, can drive by myself (and just got back from a 6 hour trip), and stores don’t bother me anymore.

I know this all sounds crazy to someone who hasn’t experienced it, but to someone it has, hearing it from someone who has been there and made it through it, and found a way to make it go away can really help. I put together a program that’s a little over an hour long video course that goes through everything I went through to get where I am today. If you’re interested, you can find it at http://www.anxietycourse.com. There’s an introductory video there that gives an idea about what the program is about.

If I can help, just let me know.

High caffeine beverages will cause panic attacks for me. I don’t drink coffee and never have regularly, so when I consume caffeinated drinks it sends my system into a frenzy. Definitely avoid it.
