For two years I suffered from depression and panic attacks and was unable to drive and leave the house. Now, I feel I am much better but I will panic if I know someone is coming to visit or if I have an appointment to go to. I only leave home when absolutely have to and have not driven in two years.

This is a serious problem and I need help. How do I began going out without a severe panic attack or why I am afraid to drive when I never was before? Why would I not want anyone to visit and it makes me nervous and panicky? I have to get over this, I cannot continue to stay in bed the rest of my life.

You really should go to your doctor and perhaps get some anti anxiety or antidepressant medication. A psychologist/psychiatrist will also be able to help you with some of your problems. What you can also do is try some meditation in your home to find a ‘place’ where you can be calm. If you feel an attack come on- it sounds silly, but you can close your eyes and count to 10.

You could also think about getting a pet, having a dog around might make you feel better when you feel an attack coming on. It should act as a calming agent to you, if you feel anxious- you can slowly pet the dog and speak to them about it (sounds a little odd, but it really can make you feel better).

Good luck with this, I hope you can get the help that you need. Focusing on breathing, even gritting your teeth, is a good way to begin to desensitize yourself to your panic triggers.

You need to be treated by a doctor. There is great med’s out there to help you! I did a yr of hiding here. Go see a specialist and have someone you know well come and stay the night with you and take you there. No waiting for them,,,,,just get up and spend the time together before you go..they go with you, help with the paper work and be there for you ever minuet. Sweet prayers for you today!

I have the same problem. you need to see a doctor. Some medications really help. I use Effexor but the doctors can determine what is best for you. Also some therapy. Just take it slow and one day at a time
I guess mine was from insecurities of growing up and also my driving was from being in an accident when I was young. It did not help when my driving instructor really STRESSEd how we are so responsible for other peoples lives too. LOL
Please get help. My Aunt lived liked you for almost 30 years till she died. She missed out on a lot in life, like going to see her grandchild in plays and things or even getting the wonders of seeing a new place.
I am glad I get out.(PS I found being on the Internet isn’t always the best way to socialize either–you need human contact0

You need to get professional help. Use the phone, make an appointment and get someone understanding to take you to your appointment. Don’t wait and don’t just try to get over this yourself.
