What are the best things to do to calm down when you feel like you are about to have a panic attack?
I go to a private school and almost everyday during class I feel like I am going to lose control. I can usually get my self calmed down but it is always on my mind. A few months a go I really didnt even know what a panic attack was until Ihad one last month. What can I do during school and at other places when I feel so far away from my home even though my school is only about 4 minutes away. I dont want to have to deal with this anymore. My distractions dont help anymore. So what do you do to make it better?
Tell your doctor ..he/she may give you a low dose of Ativan or something similar especially if they are getting worse .
I know how awful they could be.With me knowing that there was something there to take made me feel better… even i I didn’t take one.
Someone once told me
"No one has ever died from a panic attack" and just knowing that made me feel better too.
I had them so bad at times I thought I was dieing.. I don’t have them anymore..and I do not take the meds anymore.
Talk to a doc about them they can help you. good luck

concentrate on your breathing. take a deep breath in and hold it in your stomach. count to three. then slowly let the air out through your mouth by contracting your abdomen. its amazing what breathing exercises can do for anxiety

I have been suffering from panic attacks for almost 3 years now. Some things that help me are counting up to 30 and then back down. Also when some crazy thoughts start coming into my head I will quietly say "thinking" and that kind of reminds me that they are just thoughts and not reality. Like I could have a daydream that I won the lottery and I’m in costa rica sipping margaritas, but that doesn’t mean its really happening. Similarly, I could panic and think that I’m going to die, but that doesn’t mean its going to happen either. I did have to get on meds and they helped somewhat. If you’re panicking about being away from home bring something small and unnoticeable from home. When you start to panic take it out and hold it or just sit it on your desk and maybe you’ll feel closer to home. I hope you feel better, I know exactly what you’re going through so you’re not alone!

Do you know why you are panicking? Do you miss your parents? Are you shy? Do you have bad grades? Is there a bully? Do you not like your teachers? Is the school to loud? Are you claustrophobic? Do you have friends?

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called "St John’s Wort" – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….
