i just had a horrible panic attack. i curled up and my toes curled in, my breathing was so hard and loud, i was crying and my vision was allover the place. What do you do to ease this? I take clonazpime which is a klonopin.

It’s the fear of the attack that adds more anxiety and that creates more panic, firstly review your meds with a doctor, anti anxiety meds should be stopping those panic attacks.

Secondly if u have an attack you have to learn to just let it flow and actually take it on board with a smile and have the attitude of "come on then i’m willing to go with these feelings as i know i won’t die of them" that’s how i kicked mine.

Also i exercise by cycling most days, basic meditation 10 mins most eves, eat plenty of fruit especially bananas (4 pieces of fruit a day at least) porridge oats in the mornings is good, drink lotsa fresh water, try a multi vit and an omega and a Tryptophan which is an amino acid that safely makes more Serotonin the feel good chemical that combats anxiety, be care full though if you’re on meds, i take just one quarter of the minimum 500mg of Tryptophan 4 days a week, it’s better than 5 HTP as it doesn’t cause tummy probs, so it’s slowly slowly bit at a time, i’m 6 months in to recovery and feel human again. If u need any more advice then please email me.

Good luck

I take Propranolol (a beta blocker) to curb my panic attacks.

In an emergency, use a re-breathe bag.

Cut out ALL caffeine – even in tea

5htp can help with anxiety.

I know what you are going througn. I am not sure the medication is the greatest thing. My son had them for a while and is now off the meds. I think you have to have good friends you can trust to help you go out in public and be with you for support. I don’t think caffeine or smoking is a good thing if you use these. High sugar is probably not good either. Eat as normally as you can, exercise and keep as physically healthy as possible. I think you mental health will improve the more you expose yourself to the outside environment and people. Good luck.

well you definitally need to consult a doctor or someone who could seriously give you some help, but does this happen often?

well, you just need to relax obviously…do whatever makes you relax:
o) lay down
o) take a nap, perhaps
o) listen to some soft music, slow calming music
o) take a bubble bath
o) stop being so stressed
o) don’t worry, everythings gonna be alright
o) fave fun with life
o) talk to someone if you need to
o) ask a friend to give you a massage

Try to breathe deeply and slowly.Lie down in a place that you find comfortable. When you feel better, call your doctor and see if your treatment is adequate.

I hate it when these attacks happen too so call your doctor and see if the dosage of your meds need modified. But I know how scary the attacks can be… if someone says "relax and breath" I notice it makes no difference and I actually get more light-headed and the symptoms are magnified…but that’s me and everyones different, maybe relaxation/breathing will work for you.

But my best advice is…

I suggest you stop thinking about it (I hate when people say that too,,sorry) and find something to laugh about… and go outside and take a walk and maybe go treat yourself to something you like…look in the mirror and see how beautiful you are and go show the world…anything to stop your "thoughts from racing" until you speak to your doctor. Someone here said "loud music"…that works for me too. Call a friend who makes you laugh…
It’ll pass…call your doctor. Goodluck ?

Panic is a mental condition marked by disconnection between thoughts, feeling and action. Try to quiet your mind first–Feel there is nothing in this world which is horrible.Clear the pre-disposition of ideas from your mind.

I used to get panic attacks while in college. It was normally triggered when I was worried my professors would call on me and the attention of the whole class would be turned to me. I was deathly afraid of speaking in class.

I suspected that caffeine was making my fear of speaking in class even worse, so I cut it out of my morning ritual. It helped, but it didn’t cure it. I spoke to a psychologist and was prescribed Paxil, but it made me nauseous so after 3 days I quit taking it. I spoke to a different psychologist and he said my problem was I was thinking too fast. (seriously) He said I allowed my mind to run too rapidly and that I needed to consciously slow down my mind by relaxing my body and speaking slower, like taking deliberate pauses between sentences. He showed me some relaxation techniques and after a couple weeks I was much more functional.

That is what worked for me. It has been about 6 years since then and without drugs, I learned to control my body’s panic mechanism. I hope this helps. I’m sure if you talk to a trained psychologist he or she can help you further if you wish to pursue this method.

Hi there! I had a tough time with panic/ anxiety attacks. When I was first having all the symptoms of a severe panic attack (racing heart, sweating, increase in temperature, chest pains and tingling in my hands), I never knew that I had a panic disorder. I kept worrying that my heart was going to cease from these episodes so I assumed I had a heart problem!
Once I knew that these symptoms were caused from anxiety and that I wasn’t going to die that took a lot of the worry off about these attacks all together.

What I notice about anxiety is that it gets triggered off by a negative/ worrying thought which spirals in ones mind. What you have to do when you notice the first symptoms of an attack is take deep slow breaths for about 5 min. Do something which occupies yourself and helps you to relax eg going on the internet/ baking/ chatting to a friend- whatever. While doing this reassure yourself that with the right treatment whether it be medicine or talk therapy your panic attacks are going to diminish over time!! That should help put you at ease too.
I wish you all the best!
