What works for panic attacks, anxiety? Amino acids…if which ones?
I have been off of alcohol for a couple of weeks, been of valium for 9 months…Lots of worry and stress daily…I need help?

Meditate. Really. Imagine you are on a beach somewhere, or in the woods – somewhere you find peaceful.
Sit tight – I promise you, if you simply sit, and be still, you will not spontaneously combust. I’ve been off the booze for years now, and watched hundreds of people get sober, and I’m gonna tell ya, part of the reason why you are wound tighter than a swiss watch made in china is because you aren’t drinking….its part of your brain recalibrating because its not pickled….

Just breathe. This too will pass. Really.

You need to give your brain a little time to get used to its new settings. Trying to take things for it might actually make it worse. There is a reason why they don’t give newly sober folks a bunch of drugs to be more comfortable….newly sober folks usually want to jump out of thier skin no matter what…

So hang in there….get some phone numbers. Call some folks. Ask them how they are doing. It will get your mind off of your anxiety, and help you build some social support networks.

Good Luck

Accupuncture, meditation, listening to music, exercising. If you start to feel stressed take a warm shower, talk with someone you trust, and make sure you are breathing right. When you get nervous you start to take faster, shorter breaths, which can make your anxiety worse. Focus on your breathing and take deep breaths. Oh & watch what you eat. Don’t drink coffee, or any caffeine at all. Caffeine speeds you up and can most definitely cause an anxiety attack, especially if you already aren’t feeling good. Don’t eat too much sugar, and make sure you are eating enough whole grains, fruits & veggies. If you don’t take a multi vitamin, it would help to start. Also, fish oil is good for anxiety. The Omega 3 in it has been shown to improve mood and help get rid of anxiety.

Since you are detoxing off of alcohol AND valium, it’s gonna be hard. I don’t know if this is an option, but maybe you could just focus on getting off one thing at a time. First work on alcohol, and then after a few months, slowly detox yourself off of the valium…

Also, talk to your doctor. There are other medications that help with anxiety that are not addictive like Valium. Ask your doctor about your options.

Good luck!

1. Try doing Byron Katie’s "The Work" – this is fantastic – I can’t recommend her highly enough – she has a website with free worksheets or look her up on youtube.

2. If you get panic attacks, sign up for the free emails on the panicaway website.

3. Keep two journals. One for writing down all your feelings, this is really good for clearing out your anxieties and getting all your war onto paper, you can delete it straight after if you need to, it’s just good to really see your stressful thinking. And the other can be your gratitude journal – write down all the things you are grateful for that happened today.

4. http://www.foodforthebrain.org is a charity and it has a free questionnaire you can fill out in order to get feedback on what you might be lacking in your diet.

If you are lacking in Vitamin B, You can suffer the following symptoms: Feeling unreal, Hearing your own thoughts, Anxiety and Inner tension, Inability to think straight, Suspicion of people, Good pain tolerance, seeing or hearing things abnormally, having delusions and frequent mood swings. Read Patrick Holford’s "Optimum Nutrition for the Mind"

Also, I cut out gluten from my diet and all the ‘mental noise’ has completely calmed down. This has really really helped.
(There is a theory that some people suffer from leaky gut syndrome, the wheat goes through the gut and straight to the brain, acting as a drug, which can make you feel ‘crazy’ with thoughts.)

5. Go to The Option Institute! Here is a link: http://www.option.org/custom:single,595
If you cannot afford their programs, write to them and they can help you out financially.

Kindest Regards.

Prayer can be helpful. God can help you live a better life if you want Him to. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end — time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God’s blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can’t explain the world’s natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner’s prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: "Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus’ name, amen." I’m Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could try out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group to learn about God’s will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life and have a Christian church pray for you.

Panic disorder can be effectively treated with a variety of interventions including psychological therapies, medication, and self-help techniques, with the evidence that cognitive behaviour therapy has the longest duration of effect, followed by specific selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors

Ideally, natural methods like relaxation and breathing therapies are the best. This website has some details:

http://www.self-improvement-advice.org/dealing-with-anxiety-attacks.html

Although medications offer more immediate help, overcoming your stress and fear triggers is what helps in the long run.

The website also has experiences shared by panic attack sufferers, along with the details at:

Hope these resources help. Good wishes.
