What is a panic attack exactly like?
I have an intense fear of rollar coasters! When someone mentions them, I get clammy and nauseous and they MUST stop talking about them! At the end of my 8th grade year (this year), we got on a school trip to Hershey Park. I want to go to get over my fear, but I THINK I MIGHT HAVE A SERIOUS PANIC ATTACK! What are they really like though, panic attacks?
Ok, I am NOT looking for a way to get over my fear. Jsyk.
Panic attacks affect people differently.
I suffered from panic attacks for a while not so long ago but got over them by telling myself it’s just my mind and that I’m not actually going to die.
When you have a panic attack, you really feel that you’re going to die. The fight/flight instinct kicks in, and adrenaline will rush through your body, but as you have no need for it, you can often feel like your legs are stuck to the ground.
In my experience, I used to get really hot, breathe heavily and quickly, my head felt all fuzzy and I couldn’t move my legs. The first couple of times I had them, I actually thought I was dying and I cried afterwards. I’ve had panic attacks from just thinking I couldn’t breathe when I had a cold, and worrying about having 2 pints in my hand as opposed to one so they can occur at any time.
I had come downs from a panic attack too. I would shake uncontrollably, shiver and feel cold. After the come down, I would be on a high for a few minutes. Sounds really weird but it happened.
Best way to get rid of fear is to just do it and conquer it. If you feel like you’re going to have a panic attack, tell yourself you’re not going to die and that it’s your mind playing tricks on you.
After doing that, I can now bring myself to have a panic attack and get back out of it again.

Everyone has something or another that triggers feelings of panic or fear. You don’t have to do anything that you think you are not ready for, though. Just go on the trip to have a good time! That’s important, too.

It varies from person to person. There’s no way to say what it would feel like if you had one.
I’ve heard of them described as a feeling one couldn’t breathe, pain in the chest as if a heart attack were happening, and when I’ve had them, I start acting really strange, my movements become stiff and I can’t talk normally, I talk very stiffly and short like a robot and breathe very rapidly. Other times, I freeze in place like a deer in the headlights and can’t speak or move for several seconds.
The good news is, though, I didn’t get them until I had a terrible experience…long story….
Anyways, roller coasters, I don’t like the sort of thing at the fair that goes upside down, but I’ve ridden on rollercoasters that went upsidedown a little, and I loved it.
A bit of advice- don’t feel like you have to go on the biggest one first time around. Start smaller. That way you can get a feel for it.
Or if it’s just not your thing, it’s fine if you don’t want to go on it. Fortuantley, roller coasters aren’t part of most peoples’ everyday lives, so it’s really up to you.
