What medication is best for anxiety/panic attacks?
I am already on citralopram
Xanax (also known as alprazolam) but be warned, it could destroy your life. It almost did to me. It worked but they are extremely addictive and it can be a slippery slope once you get started on them. If you get them, stick with a low dose and don’t be tempted to take more..that’s where the problems start. You need to get a REPUTABLE doctor to oversee your usage. I had a quack who gave me 160 of them at a time!! I overdosed and almost died on them.

You need to see a psychiatrist to find out which medication is best for YOU.
It will probably be a benzodiazapine (the group that valium belongs to), but it is hard to be any more specific than that.

Well it comes in 3 categories:
1) Longterm treatment…an SSRI antdepressant like Lexapro or Cipramil ( No addictive potential)
2) Shorterm treatment for periods <21 days..probably Xanax( plenty of potential for addiction if used for peiods >21 days at a time without a break)
3) Alternative treatment that simply knocks out the adrenaline component of the "Flight or Fight" response…propranolol ( Useful for things like your wedding day etc)
My own guess would be to start lexapro 5 mg per day, xanax 250 mg thrice daily and reduce the xanax as the lexapro begins to work…i.e after 6 weeks ( You won’t be addicted if you withdraw xanax slowly)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The other add on medicine is Buspar ( Buspirone) a non addictive valium type drug which, like citalopram, unfortunately take ages to work. But say you took it, xanax and citalopram you’d find it worked within about 6 weeks and you could withdraw xanax slowly but continue on it…the xanax is like its "Starter motor"
Why is everything six weeks ??????Well, you see you got to realise that your brain architecture needs to be remodelled by the citalopram to reinforce the pathways that dampen down the panic pathways in your brain. Some life stress has probably lead to the panic pathways becoming too pronounced and causing a problem. So it takes time to see the citalopram work. Have Faith

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called "St John’s Wort" – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….
