What medications have you tried for panic attacks, and which have the least side effects?
I am hoping not to have memory loss or sleep problems, and sexual functioning issues. Thanks
Prozac, zoloft, effexor, lexapro, xanax, wellbutrin. Side affects depends on many factors. Age, is the most important one for me. But a good qualified, psychiatrist can make a good call, but they will need to know your history.

My husband has recently been having panic attacks and his doctor put him on xanax…it takes care of the attacks without having any side effects.

I took Buspar. It didn’t work well for me though. The only thing that worked well for me was taking a daily dose of fish oil. The stuff really does work. Do some research. You’ll find there are a lot of people using this stuff to treat panic attacks, anxiety & depression. No nasty side effects except occasionally burping fishy taste. Its cheap & you don’t need a prescription.
Hope this helps.

Xanax and Klonopin. Xanax works the best. I also am on Symbyax(zyprexa & prozac) for my bi-polar disorder. I don’t take the xanax every day. When I feel a panic attack coming on just knowing I have the xanax helps but of course I have to take one to stop it.

I’ve tried imipramine, paxil, celexa, effexor and xanax for panic attacks and panic disorder. I am including a link where there are a few short videos on anxiety medications. I reacted very badly to Paxil. Xanax had a negative effect but only for a short time. A lot of panic medications may cause sexual side effects. As for memory loss, hopefully, that won’t happen, but tell your doctor immediately if you have a problem. The best thing to do is to speak with your doctor and before taking the meds, read up on the specific ones you’ve been prescribed. Remember though, not everyone reacts the same way, so you may have very few problems.

Benzos probably aren’t going to do it for you – they’re only for short term use and docs don’t give them out very easily at all.
I’d recommend first trying an SSRI – Lexapro didn’t work for me, but it does for lots of people. Right now I’m on Cymbalta and I also take Buspar, which I’ve taken for about 4 years without the greatest success. My doc thought maybe the combination would help. Lots of people with anxiety issues deal with some form of depression so an SSRI can really help, although if it doesn’t, your anxiety may seem worse just because the depression isn’t masking it.
Neither one have any side effects at all for me. The Cymbalta made me a little sleepless at first, but the buspar counteracts that, so you should be fine.
