whats the best way to over come fear & anxiety(Panic Attacks)?

Some tips I learnt during my inpatient stay at a private psychiatric hospital:
Drink ice cold water for a racing heart, it hits a nerve at the back of the throat and slows the heart down.Or suck an ice cube.
I take propranalol (on prescription) to ease the shaking and slow my heart down. Its a beta blocker.
Breathe in for 4 and out for 4, put your hand on your tummy and when you breathe in push the hand out. This is to make sure you are breathing deeply. Do this for a while until you feel calmer.
Focus on every little small minute detail around you. If you look at a chair, notice the bolts in it, the texture of the fabric, the smallest detail in the pattern etc.
Valarian root is a natural sedative used to treat anxiety and insomnia. You can buy it in health shops or online.
Also a treatment for anxiety that I was given that isnt addictive is Quetiapine. When i was in the private psychiatric hospital, I was give 50mg for my anxiety. In higher doses its an Anti Psychotic. It can actually be taken in doses as big as 600mg a day. It will make you feel quite sleepy at first though. You have to ask your doc for it as its prescription.
I hope this helps!! and get some counseling as the other techniques will only help short term, they wont stop you getting the anxiety attacks.
