I use to get panic attacks all the time but not as much anymore. They are scary though. I have ended up n the emergency room because of them and they would always tell me it was gas. Finally a doctor asked me if there was a change happening in my life or if i was under a great deal of stress and actually i was. He said you are having anxiety attacks also known as panic attacks. I lived in California with my mom and my dad lived in new york but he would come visit during the year. I found that i would have an attack mostly when it would be around the time he was going to leave to go back home. The doctor said to try not to focus on the breathing because it will make it worse. He told me to learn to control it by getting a small paper bage to breath in or get up and go outside to get some air. Now when i feel one comming on i feel my hands get tingly and my chest tighten up so i stand up really fast and go outside to get fresh air and take a couple of deep breaths and walk around to take my mind off it. It helps from it going into a full blown panic attack.

I take a clonapin every now and then when I can’t cope.
My therapist told me that I should try to get some exercise when I feel one coming on. Unfortunately, mine usually get me at night now. I’ll wake up in the middle of the night not being able to breathe for no reason at all. I’m certainly not going to go and work out at 1:30 in the morning when I’d rather be sleeping. So, instead, I’ve been taking a clonapin when I know I’ve had a rather stressful day so that doesn’t happen and I get a full night’s sleep. I don’t take one every night because clonapin can become habit forming.
