Everyone I speak to in UK has had or is having panic attacks. Why?? I left UK 20 yrs ago – I can’t remember anyone having panic attacks or despression … why now? Do you think it has to do with diet as the food quality in UK has gone down incredibly in the past 20 yrs! Pre-prepared food – frozen dinners – meat with added water! It’s the thing I can think of that is common with most people. My sister has suffered from panic attacks/depression for 5+ yrs and it’s driving me mad as I can’t help her nor can I stop them. It’s very upsetting to hear about them daily.

Too much stress/anxiety & lack of sleep/relaxation.
Not enough time for proper communication/wellness
Not enough love care & compassion
Lack of family cohesion and emotional support
Too much work
Poor food quality/environmental chemicals
All of the above affect our sense of security & wellbeing

It’s not just panic attacks either same for depression /mental diseases in general.

a mixture of things. i think it’s the KIND of stresses we have now, combined with the nutritional deficiencies we’re all suffering because of the food quality.

I also believe, for women, that hormones can play a large part in triggering panic attacks. All the hormones in meat, all the pseudo hormone products even in things like plastic, mimic estrogen and our bodies are not functioning like they should be. My panic attacks were due to that and I’d bet that a lot of other women’s are too.

I live in Australia and i have panic attacks often…
It’s not just about the UK, i think it’s just the universal society nowadays in general.
Stress about family, work, friends, money ..etc, contribute to this and have been increased through the past decades.

It also may have something to do with the amount of caffeine and LACK OF SLEEP and relaxation nowadays compared to the past????

i think that they were around, i just don’t think that it was talked about as much. when someone would have a panic attack it was considered a nervous break down and if someone had depression they were considered lazy. they also didn’t have the meds or therapy 20 years ago that they have now. the meds then could be very sedating. there is something that you can do to help your sister when she has a panic attack. get her some ice water and have her drink it. then have her blow all the old air out of her lungs through her nose, then have her breathe in deeply through her nose all the way to her stomach, have her hold it to the count of three and then exhale through her mouth. the ice water helps with the chest pain and makes it feel like her throat is opening up. hope that this helps

The way we live now causes so much depression.

Many poorer people live in cramped housing (have you seen how tiny new houses are) or in high rise flats, there is not enough space between families.

Wages are so bad that 2 parents have to work, their quality of family life is marred because they don’t have as much time to spend with their kids…and they are too tired.

Debt problems causes even more stress, with banks too eager to offer loans, but not so eager to listen when their customers run into financial difficulties.

We have so much food, but the quality is poor and people with little time opt for the quick and easy microwave/take away options.

Erosion of parents rights to discipline their kids properly means adults are having to cope with their unruly kids bad behaviour.

Because extended family seems to be a thing of the past, parents don’t have the help they need with small children, they can barely afford childcare, so have little time to relax properly.

Housework is something that should be shared more equally among the family, yet most of the time it is done by the woman. Doing some hoovering will not damage your penis, fellas lol and if you help out with the housework, wifey will be less tired and have some energy for naughties, if you get my drift.

There seems to be little flexibility or help when people get ill or have a life changing event like bereavement, divorce, childbirth…we are all expected to get on with it, and if we can’t cope, tough!

Bullying…in schools, in the workplace, on the internet…all contribute to high levels of stress, they give the sufferer a feeling of worthlessness, powerlessness, and no one seems to want to help.

I have no answers for all of the above, but for any sufferer of depression/panics need to get help from their doctor. Be selfish for a while, delegate jobs and take time to relax and do things that you enjoy.

yes you’re right, it has partly to do with diet..coffee & caffeine being one the main culprits…
I started developing panick attacks soon after I started drinking coffee & although someone did tell me at the time that coffee was the reason, I laughed at them at that time…now after having sufferred for over 10 years, I realize they were right, I stopped having caffeine altogether (I only have decaf stuff), esp. in fizzy drinks & even dark chocolate..& my panick attacks are mostly all gone…it did take a while for all the residues of coffee to be gone but I noticed a big difference about 1 weel later.
Also , drinking water to flush the system is very helpful & very importantly dep breathing every few hours.

Also, if you belive in crystal therpay get her a crsytal called SODALITE OR KUNZITE…simply carrying the crystals with her or placing them on her solar plexus (or wherever she gets the attacks)…also remember crystal need cleansing, by placing them in brown rice for 24 hours (you can eat the rice after). You can get them on the net or Ebay or crystal/new age shopsI usually the atacks subside within 10 minutes (depending on severity)..even if you don’t belive in crystal therpay, telling your sister that it works will help her as your power of suggestion & love & support that you place in the crystal by giving her the crystal will help her enourmously.
I hope your sister gets beter soon…
xxGigi
