Hello,
Okay so, i have a sister who is 18 (19 soon) i don’t like with her any more but ive only saw her had a panic attack once but i i do know she gets them and she takes tablets for them.

Is there a possibility she will grow out of having panic attacks?

Thank you for your help xx

I’m 26 and I’ve had panic attacks since i was around your sisters age. I don’t know how they started but the doctors say it’s from stress/ chemical imbalance. I’ve tried different medications and some work, some don’t. It usually wont go away unless you find out if there is a trigger, if you find the right medication or through counseling. I know it’s scary to see but just let her know you’re there for her. People with panic attacks need to be reassured that they are going to be okay. Good luck to you and your sis :)

I’m 15 and i have panic attacks all the time but, i doubt it unless she has an obvious trigger. We can’t find out what triggers mine so i will have them forever i guess.

Honestly panic attacks are usually Psychological and come from anxiety. When i was younger i suffered from panic attacks and grew out of them simply by learning how to control my anxiety until it went away.

I didn’t really grow out of mine, I went to counseling. They ask you why you start to get nervous, and why you have a panic attack, what you panic about. I am VERY glad I went, I have not had one for two years.

I think its about stress management. If she learns to cope with stress by eating right(eating plenty of vegtables), exercising on a regular basis, and socializing with genuine friends she should be fine.

Its also possible that if she has a good bf it could help also. she might have security issues.

Panic attacks aren’t something you grow out of – they need correct treatment and/ or therapy.
Out of interest, are they caused by a phobia?
If so then it’s the phobia that needs treating.

I’m 16 and have had panic attacks most of my life. I’ve always been told i’ll grow out of it but to be honest I do feel like it’ll never happen. Usually, talking about the cause for your panic attacks (i.e. fear of death etc) can help to ease it a bit, even if it scares you while you’re talking about it, because it gets it out of your head. IF she hasn’t grown out of it by say… 22 – I reconmend going to a specialist therapist (like I do). They’re really good but only if you get a good one. It’s hard to start off and it can make you feel uncomfortable and more panicky at first but eventually it’ll get better!! xx

Depends on what the problem is that’s causing her to have them. The best thing she can do is see a therapist and solve it.
