Xanax for panic attacks?

My PCP has given me Xanax in the past to control intense panic attacks (she would only do it twice in the past 2 years and I understand her reasoning but I only need this medication on an accute basis and would like to have access to it when I really need it.) so I have made an appt with a psychiatrst in hopes that they will give me a script for when I need it. I am extremely anxious about going to a psych at all and am concerned he may not give me a prescription either. I don’t think it would be smart to ask for this drug by name as he will think I am trying to abuse it, which is not the case. It is something I really need at this time in my life. Suggestions? Again, I undrstand the risks of Xanax and only plan on taking it on an as needed basis. No lectures please : ) thanks.
xanax is meant primarily as a short term medication, because if you continually take it for a long period of time you develop a severe physical and psychological dependency, but it sounds to me like you would are seeking to use it only in extreme circumstances
It really depends on the physician..some may be reluctant to offer it as there are many horror stories attributed to the usage of it. I would recommend just saying something like "i have tried taking xanax before, and it had worked very well for me". and kind of hint that you only used it in extreme circumstance. The doctor may give it to you, or may provide you with another benzo such as klonopin. If they outright refuse, then they probably dont give it to anyone in the first place, in such a case you should seek another doctor
